MAINTAIN / MEASURE / LEARN

Improve the page that already has a job.

Maintenance starts with a specific question: what does this reader need, and what does the current page fail to provide?

Separate demand from production

A working writing pipeline proves that content can be produced. It does not prove an audience wants that content. Review observed queries and page-level purpose before scheduling another article.

Use comparable windows

Keep the property, country, device and search type consistent. Compare completed, equal and nonoverlapping periods. A query-page export may omit observations, so its row sums should not be described as independently verified site totals.

Choose an original contribution

Inspect the current page and choose a useful addition: a worked example, a tested tool, a decision checklist or a better explanation of alternatives. Adding length alone does not demonstrate value. Accountable authorship should reflect actual experience and a clear review method.

Record before changing

  1. Preserve the original page fingerprint and metadata.
  2. Name the observed reader question.
  3. List the claims and sources to recheck.
  4. Define the specific proposed edit.
  5. Choose a follow-up metric and scope.

Learn without inventing a cause

When later measurements arrive, review them against the recorded change and its audience scope. A before/after increase can reflect query mix, seasonality or other edits. Keep causal lift unknown until independent evidence supports it; never automatically promote a policy from synthetic fixtures.
