TECHNICAL SEO

Follow the path before changing the page.

A page can look correct on its own and still point search engines or visitors toward the wrong destination. Review the relationships around it, with the date and coverage of every observation visible.

01 / REVIEW STEP

Separate three different questions

Can the visitor reach this URL? Which version does the page identify as preferred? Does an indexing directive exclude it? A redirect response, a canonical hint and a noindex instruction do different jobs. Start by recording the exact status, Location header, canonical and robots evidence.

02 / REVIEW STEP

Work through a concrete conflict

Suppose /services points canonically to /review, while the saved /review page has noindex. First confirm that both captures are current and belong to the intended site. Then decide which page should serve the reader. Removing noindex without that decision could expose a deliberately private page.

03 / REVIEW STEP

Trace the destination

Follow the saved Location records until you reach an observed destination, a loop or the inspection boundary. A missing record means the destination is unknown. A chain is a review opportunity, but may reflect real dependencies. Verify current routing and preserve a rollback before simplifying it.

04 / REVIEW STEP

Review links within their coverage

A page absent from a partial inventory is not a broken page. A self-link is not evidence that another page helps visitors discover it. Use observed paths from the supplied homepage to find navigation questions, then inspect the uncaptured areas before declaring a page orphaned.

05 / REVIEW STEP

Verify at the right layer

Recapture changed source and target URLs, inspect the actual rendered page and check Search Console separately. A clean saved graph cannot establish live indexing, crawl coverage, mobile usability or Core Web Vitals. Record what each check actually measured.

Your next-step checklist

  • Both source and destination captures are dated.
  • Canonical intent is explained.
  • Redirect loops and unknown destinations are distinct.
  • Self-links do not inflate incoming coverage.
  • A staging change and rollback are reviewed.

Primary references

These links support the process and policy context. Check the current source before making a time-sensitive decision.

Turn the question into a defined scope.

Agree the page, deliverables and evidence needed before work begins. A useful review should explain what to change and what remains uncertain.
